T-Mobile HD2 unboxing and possible early release

The excitement over T-Mobile bringing the HTC HD2 to the U.S. Market is increasing. To add to this excitement, unboxing photos of the Windows Phone have surfaced, and T-Mobile customers may be treated to a slightly earlier release. The unboxing pictures are just enough to whet your appetite. Modestly packaged, the contents aren't that much of a surprise and include the phone, battery, charger and stereo headset. While the packaging also indicates 16 gigabytes of memory that will be the included microSD card with the Transformer movies (part of the entertainment package) preloaded. Shame it couldn't be 16GB of on-board memory. With regards to a possible early release, MobiTV (a featured application on the HD2) tweeted confirmation that the mobile television app would be on the HD2. In the same breath the tweet mentions a release date of March 23 (as opposed to the early indication of a March 24 release). This may be a simply typo, but we know T-Mobile is planning a launch party on March 16 for VIPs and the press. It should be that big of a stretch to see the T-Mo HD2 on store shelves a seven days later instead of eight. Whether it's the 23rd or 24th, T-Mobile deserves kudos for bringing the HD2 to the U.S market. Now if we could only get the other carriers to follow suit. Via boygenuisreport and gearlog

Nokia Working On X-Ray Vision Phone Application

In an article titled 'Phones to offer X-ray vision' and published on the smh.com.au portal, an Australian professor, Dr. Christian Sandor, revealed that researchers at the University of South Australia working with Nokia to build an ''X-ray vision'' mobile phone application which it hoped could be introduced in the next two years. Dr Sandor said the technology could not be used by peeping Toms to see into people's houses because only the exterior views of buildings and streets were held in the databases. Christian Sandor explained the application worked by using the phone's camera. Users pointed the camera at a building and an image of it would appear on the screen. The... .. . Vodafone Distributes Malware on HTC Magic Mobile

Panda Research is reporting that Vodafone, a large European mobile communications provider and partner with Verizon in Verizon Wireless, is distributing malware on a particular phone. The story is that they came across it by accident. One of them bought an HTC Magic, an Android phone. When she connected it to her PC over USB her (Panda) antivirus software went off. The phone had malicious autorun and other files. They first identified a "Mariposa" bot, tied to a botnet run by a Spanish hacker. But there was also Conficker and a Lineage password stealer.

Review: Evernote for Windows Mobile

Every once in a while, you come across a killer app (or service) that you cannot believe that you’ve lived without for so long. I’m sure many of you have been using Evernote for some time, and will find this review a day late and a dollar short; if so please head straight to the comments. For those who haven’t had the pleasure of experiencing what Evernote has to offer, keep reading. Concept Evernote is designed to be a tool that will allow you to capture thoughts using a variety of different methods and then store them in a centralized way that allows you to access your thoughts from whatever device you find convenient. Through the use of the Evernote website (www.evernote.com) and staggering array of software clients that encompass everything from Windows and Macintosh computers to all of the major smartphone platforms, including Windows Mobile. Service Evernote allows you to capture notes as text, drawings, pictures, or file uploads. The Evernote servers also attempt OCR (Optical Character Recognition) on all of your images in an effort to allow you to search any text contained within the images. Two levels of service are available from Evernote; a free service and a premium service which costs $5 per month or $45 per year. The free service allows you 40MB worth of uploads data per month, and allows a limited amount of file types. Premium subscribers are allowed up to 500MB of uploads per month, and gain the ability to upload a number of additional file types as well as getting the ability to allow others to edit their notes. Software The Windows Mobile client for Evernote allows you to create and view notes from your Windows Phone. Everything from text to drawings and pictures to audio can be created within Evernote and synced to the cloud. For the most part the application is fairly Spartan; it does what it is supposed to do and little else, but the real power to this is the service. When a text or drawing (aka Ink Note) is created, Evernote automatically transfers the note to the cloud. Obviously there are some tools that handle data backup and synchronization by using cloud based servers (notably Microsoft’s MyPhone service) but Evernote does this on the fly, and even gives you access to other notes that you have created using other devices. Conclusion I don’t know how many of you are note takers, but Evernote is by far the best solution that I have found for handling note taking and managing those notes after the fact. The fact that this service is available for free is equally amazing. The amount of scenarios where Evernote can assist you in capturing a thought or a concept is simply amazing (if you’ve got any stories about how Evernote has helped you out, give us a comment). For a full rundown on all of the ways that Evernote can assist you in your life, head on over to the Evernote site. Ratings (out of 5) Concept: 5 Service: 5 Software: 4 Overall: 4.5/5 Pros Cloud based system, perfect for this application. Free for basic feature set. Cons Windows Mobile application is a little boring. Would have liked to see more options in the text notes.
