Real Estate:: New York Times: A Warm Winter for Rentals -- 50 Columbus nicer than her old place in Chelsea
Give downtown 10 years and it will be 75,000-100,000 or more with around 20 more buildings more Liberty Harbor which will get up to 20 stories tall as there is around 8-10 different streets for it, 3 or 4 new ones on other conversions around Trump, another building at Columbus and Marin with the 2 there now with my the connecting building was torn down, plus another 5-10 or so scattered around downtown besides the 10 over with Lefrak for Newport. There big buildings being built and yet to occupy at Grand and Marin, Next to the double tree and maybe even another one not mentioning whether it condos or rentals yet. And of course Trump and Gulls Cove have 2nd buildings as well. Besides all the parking lots right by Trump could be a number of more buildings right there.

We'll hoist a Cuba Libre...as soon as we hear something official
We don't know about you, but in this day and age, we generally like to wait it out until we hear something absolutely, positively, officially officialized from the team before we break out the party hats and start planning the next World Series parade. So now, we wait for something official on Adeinis Hechavarria, the half-Cuban half-Martian supermensch who is supposed to be patrolling the middle infield turf as soon as next year.
Sure, we're going to end up being the last person to comment on this, but we'd rather that than go on at length about what this signing means. We'd rather not indulge in tossing out the names of every failed infield prospect that we could predictably belch out to dull the mood around the signing that isn't even official, and we're certainly not going create false dichotomies in trying to establish what sort of impact he may have. ("A Griffin or a Zosky", my ass.)
And in no way are we going to gloat about how some teams might be stuck with the ghost of Derek Jeter in a couple of years while we've got the rockin'est double-play combo in the AL East.
Nope. We're just gonna bide our time. Wait for something official. (Jay Stenhouse: Drop us a line when you get a chance, a'ight?)
And should it finally become official soon, we'll start daydreaming about the shortstop running to the mound to grab staff ace Henderson Alvarez in an on-field celebration in some late-October / early-November not to long from now.
Sorry. We kinda got ahead of ourselves for a moment.

Go Vote Today for King Conservation District Supervisor
This post has been moved up: Do you work downtown? Can you get to the downtown library? Can you get out on your lunch hour? GO VOTE!
What folks are calling the "most important election you've never heard of" is held today at seven libraries in the county for an open seat on the King Conservation District's board of supervisors. But that's exactly the problem: You have to get your fanny to the library—and the only polling place in Seattle is at the downtown library. Because most people don't know about the election—or, hell, even what the state-mandated board does—conservatives have tried to stack the commission against environmental interests.
Last year, Republicans ballyhooed Preston Drew, who reportedly opposed a law to protect critical areas yet won by about 150 votes. Only 2,500 people voted in the entire county. Fuse warns that "anti-environmental conservatives have waged a successful, stealth campaign to take over seats."
So this year, concerned it could happen again, environmentalists and progressives are throwing their weight behind Max Prinsen. A former chair of the Conservation Board, Max Prinsen is the President of Save Habitat and Diversity of Wetlands, and he's captured the endorsement of Washington Conservation Voters and the Sierra Club. Basically, Max Prinsen is an environmental conservationist with the bona fides to prove it. And this is a conservation board—this is the sort of candidate we want—not some tool beholden to development interests.
What the five-member board does: The King Conservation District manages a $6.3 million dollar budget, and it works on habitat restoration, helping farmers, protecting fish, setting the boundaries for suburban sprawl, and more. Sara Kiesler wrote about the election last month.
Info about all of the candidates, including Max Prinsen, is here. You can vote today at the downtown Seattle library at 4th Avenue and Madison Street from 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Here's a list of all the polling locations.
Need more incentive? The Sierra Club and King County Conservation Voters are holding a "Party for Prinsen" at Sazerac, across the street from the Downtown Library on 4th and Seneca from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sazerac has a happy hour—which Bethany calls "pretty much insane"—that will make you swoon.

Building a $400 HTPC w/ gaming, what to buy?
I am considering adding a PC gaming and blu ray computer to my home theater. I have a 1080p projection system with a onkyo TX-sr707 receiver. I would rather not spend a lot of money as you can see from the above stated budget.
I don't need to play the latest games at a real fast frame rate, and I am not really playing anything really demanding, but I would like to be able to play the stuff like unreal engine games and source engine games at a reasonable and smooth frame rate. I also want to play blu ray movies with it. I intend hook it up to the receiver using HDMI, of course.
I intend to build the computer from parts, as I have done with all my computers, however I have been out of the hardware game for a while, and I want to know what to get for the best bang for the buck. I understand that AMD/ATI (what is it called now?) and Nvidia has released some good and very inexpensive cards recently. I guess I'll need one with a HDMI out.
What I am going to need is a motherboard, CPU, video card, and RAM that can meet the above criteria. Do you think this is possible, or am I dreaming?

How effective should a water softener be?
I live in Waterloo, which is a very, very hard water area (I've seen 22-28 grains mentioned). Pretty much everyone has a water softener in their house. Without it, the hard water is really obvious. Scale all over everything, soap doesn't work, etc.
Even with the softener, the kettle and hot water dispenser both build up scale. I thought this was a fact of life, but I was recently told there shouldn't be any scale on anything if the softener is working properly. I have some hardness test strips, and the water tests as the lowest "soft" range, but I don't know the alkalinity or anything else.
Is this normal, or is the softener not working right?
