Emily and her sister Anne wrote a “diary paper” together at intervals of first three and later four years, with the later ones on or around Emily’s birthday (30 July). They were kept folded in a tin box, and the previous ones were read, hopes and prophecies compared with reality, then new ones were written. They were probably private to the two, and conventional orthography was of little account.
Monday evening June 26th 1837 A bit past 4 o’clock Charlotte working in Aunt’s room, Branwell reading Eugene Aram to her–Anne and I writing in the drawing-room–Anne a poem beginning “Fair was the evening and brightly the sun”–I Augusta Almeda’s life 1st V. 1-4th page from the last–fine rather coolish thin grey cloudy but sunny day Aunt working in the little room the old nursery Papa gone out Tabby in the kitchen–the Emperors and Empresses of Gondal and Gaaldine preparing to depart from Gaaldine to Gondal to prepare for the coronation which will be on the 12th July Queen Vittoria ascended the throne this month. Northangerland in Monkey’s Isle–Zamora at Eversham. All tight and right in which condition it is hoped we shall all be this day 4 years at which time Charlotte will be 25 and 2 months Branwell just 24 it being his birthday–myself 22 and 10 months and a piece Anne 21 and nearly a half I wonder where we shall be and how we shall be and what kind of a day it will be then–let us hope for the best

Harry Reid files candidacy for fifth Senate term
LAS VEGAS (AP) Democratic Sen. Harry Reid is seeking a fifth term in the U.S. Senate. The 70-year-old Senate majority leader declared he wants to create jobs and help Nevadans through the economic slump as he formally filed re-election paperwork Monday in Las Vegas. Reid is considered a target for Republicans emboldened by midterm GOP wins in Massachusetts, New Jersey and Virginia. So far, Reid has two unknown Democratic challengers for a June 8 primary. Twelve Republican, Independent and other party candidates also have declared they are running.

Proposals sought to rehab downtown Baltimore building
Now that Health Care for the Homeless has moved to a new headquarters on the east side of downtown Baltimore, the Baltimore Development Corp. is helping the agency sell its former location on the west side. The quasi-public development corporation announced Monday that it has set June 7 as the deadline for proposals from developers interested in redeveloping the former Health Care for the Homeless building at 111 Park Ave. The development agency also is seeking proposals for five city-owned properties on the same block: 142 and 144 W. Fayette St. and 102, 104 and 106 N. Liberty St. It intends to award all six properties to one team as one parcel for a mixed-use development, which could include housing, offices, retail space or a hotel. Health Care for the Homeless is seeking a minimum offer of $1 million for its four-story-plus-basement Park Avenue property. - Edward Gunts

Boston Public Library is currently featuring an exhibition “Man in the Street: Jules Aarons Photographs Boston 1947 - 1976” with several photos of the North End as well as other Boston neighborhoods.

When Jules Aarons began photographing seriously in 1947, he chose the streets and neighborhoods of Boston as his subject. He was drawn to the way people in the neighborhoods lived their public lives and the energy with which they talked, played and interacted. Inspired by “street photographers” such as Henri Cartier-Bresson and Helen Levitt, Aarons worked solidly in that tradition, finding a steady supply of visual inspiration in the juxtaposition of people against their urban background.

As roads close to snowmobile and snowcoach travel for the season, plow crews have started work clearing Yellowstone’s roads for automobile travel.
Oversnow travel between Mammoth Hot Spring and Norris Junction ended Sunday evening. First thing Monday morning, park road crews began making their first pass with plows to clear a lane south from Mammoth.
The park's interior roads reopen to automobile travel between mid-April and the end of May. On Friday, April 16, the roads from Yellowstone’s North and West Entrances to Norris, Madison, Canyon and Old Faithful, open to visitors.
The road linking Canyon, Fishing Bridge and the East Entrance opens on Friday, May 7. Travel from the South Entrance to Grant, West Thumb, Old Faithful and Fishing Bridge is set to begin Friday, May 14. Travel from Cooke City over Colter Pass to the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway and the Long Lake gate typically also opens by mid-May. The balance of the Beartooth Highway to Red Lodge, Montana, and the road between Tower Fall and Canyon over Dunraven Pass opens the Friday before the Memorial Day Holiday weekend, weather permitting.
The road from Gardiner, Montana, through the park's North Entrance to Mammoth Hot Springs to Cooke City, Montana, is open to automobiles all year, weather permitting.
A brief spring bicycling season is offered on some park roads after the plows safely clear traffic lanes and before the roads are ready for automobile travel. Details are available online at www.nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/springbike.htm.
Visitors to Yellowstone will be impacted by one major road construction project this year between Madison and Norris through Gibbon Canyon. Visitors can expect up to 30-minute delays from the time the road opens to travel on April 16 through October 20. This section of road will also be closed to travel between 10:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. every night from April 16 until September 1. There will be no daytime delays or overnight closures during the Memorial Day or July 4 holiday weekends. Ellis wouldn't mind rejoining Cowboys
When we last heard from outside linebacker Greg Ellis in the NFC East, he was finally talking his way out of town. He'd been unhappy with his role with the Cowboys in 2008 because they were attempting to make Anthony Spencer the full-time starter. He continued to be a mentor to Spencer, but his annual offseason complaints were starting to wear thin with the club. He was even unhappy when the Cowboys spent a couple of mid-round picks on outside linebackers in the '09 draft.
Ellis signed a three-year, $10 million contract with the Raiders after being released last June and he finished the '09 season with seven sacks as a 4-3 defensive end. But the Raiders released the 34-year-old player Monday, and Ellis' agent told ESPNDallas.com's Calvin Watkins that his client would be open to filling a reserve role for the Cowboys in 2010.
A club source informed me Wednesday afternoon the Cowboys have no interest in Ellis at this time. The club feels like second-year players Victor Butler and Brandon Williams both have a shot to emerge as talented backups at outside linebacker. In fact, none other than All-Pro DeMarcus Ware told me recently that Williams has a lot of potential and he plans to take the former Texas Tech player under his wing.

Packers Set Offseason Schedule
The Green Bay Packers have set the bulk of their offseason schedule leading up to training camp for 2010.
Following the start of the offseason strength and conditioning program on Monday and the NFL Draft in April, the Packers will hold their annual rookie orientation from April 30-May 2.
Organized team activities (OTAs) then begin on May 17 and will run through June 17, with the team holding three on-field OTAs per week, with one week off, during that five-week span. The offseason schedule then concludes with a three-day, full-squad mini-camp from June 21-23.
Training camp is slated to begin in late July, but the team's exact reporting date has not yet been set. Players generally report to training camp 15 days prior to the first preseason game.

Cornyn Not Done Recruiting In WA
NRSC chair John Cornyn indicated Monday he's got plenty of time to make the race against Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) competitive ahead of its June 11 filing deadline.
Top on the list appears to be ex-state Sen./2-time GOP GOV nominee Dino Rossi, who is considering the race.
"We did have a conversation," Rossi said of conferring with Cornyn about the race. "You never say never."
Rossi said he's gotten calls from all over the country encouraging him to run against Murray: "People I don't know, people I've never met -- you don't get that when you run for governor."
He said the dynamic developing is bigger than just anti-Dem, but centers on Murray's leadership position: "She's an appropriator, so she's one of those responsible for spending America into bankruptcy."
"We're not going to take any lessons on the economy from someone so out of touch that he wants to lower the minimum wage, deregulate industry, and weaken government oversight," DSCC spokesperson Eric Schultz retorted.
Rossi added that nearly every candidate now in the race, including state Sen. Don Benton (R), called him before launching their candidacies and have told him they would get out of the race if he got in.
But he noted that he has four children 19 and younger, and joked, "I do like having dinner at home right now." He went on, "I could run for governor again, Senate, or nothing at all, and I'm comfortable with all 3."
The argument for a Senate run now, he said, is that "the state is in need of help, and if something doesn't change up there, there might not be much of a path left."
Should Rossi decide to stay home, Cornyn said Monday, "There are others who are looking at it -- Susan Hutchinson -- and perhaps there will be others that step up before that filing deadline."
Hutchinson is a philanthropist and former local news anchor whose husband is an executive with Boeing. She waged an unsuccessful battle to become King Co. executive in '09, but she has yet to make up her mind.
"I have decided that I've not decided yet," Hutchison said in a brief interview. She suggested Rossi's answer might be more important than her own.

MVLA board approves bond measure
After 18 months of "exploration," trustees of the Mountain View-Los Altos High School District voted 5-0 at their regular meeting Monday to place a $41.3 million bond measure on the June 8 ballot.
