what to do about someone unhappy with photos.....
Hi guys...it has been more than 18months since I had someone that hasn't ordered photographs. Most people are happy, and order within the first 5 days to get a 15% discount. A few wait a couple of weeks and get their extended families together and order all at once. Once in a while I have people wait until the last day that their gallery is available....the procrastinators!
I had a session a couple of weeks ago with a family of 4....mom, dad, two boys age 6 and 3. They were dressed in Navy and red, so we did a Navy blue backdrop with a lighter blue hotspot... They wanted more formal looking portraits, so the sitting on the ground with a white backdrop wasn't what they were looking for.
I posted them in a gallery for them to see and within an hour the wife called me and said "The photos look a little dark and they are hard to see our faces....is this the way they are going to print" So I asked what kind of computer that they are using to look at them with..... "Well, our computer is about 10 years old, and it is a CRT monitor" and they have never messed with the calibration or brightness or contrast. So I told them that if they could look at them at work or on a friend's computer they could see the difference....
So she hangs up and about 30 min later the husband calls.
"I just don't understand what my wife is telling me...what did you tell her?"
So I go through it again, and he says....
"What color is the backdrop that you used?"
Navy blue,
and he said "Well, it looks black on my computer, and our faces are dark"
"Yes, that is because you have an old computer and an old monitor, you can gladly come to my studio and view them if you would like"
Well, if we order them on our dark computer will they look like that on the print?? We would feel more comfortable seeing proofs...we have never ordered any photos online before, other photographers have given us proofs to hold and look at.....
Ugh. Ok, I can have a proof book sent to your house, then you will see how they will look printed.
(I have had 3 other photogs look at the photos and they all agreed that they look OK, and not dark...I am sure it is their computer)
Now he says that he isn't sure he likes them......ugh.
How do you handle this? I don't really want to reshoot, so do I just say "Return the proof book and c-ya" ??

How You Can Help Sick Soi Dogs
If you see a sick dog on the island rather than ignore it's suffering there is something you can do about it. Last week I saw this dog in a terrible condition on Koh Sirae and I reported it to SoiDog>>>
I received this back from them today :-(
"Our dog catcher has been back to the area 3 times over the last few days looking for the dog and each time he had gone he came back with other dogs also in bad condition and sick, which we are now treating at the shelter, however yesterday the dog you identified was found and taken to the shelter, Dr Ami confirmed what she had suspected from her initial look at the photos and that the dog did indeed have cancer, this plus the malnutrition and the severe wound on his back, it was decided to put the dog to sleep in the best interests of the dog.
The condition of the dog moved the shelter volunteers to tears and prompted one person to write the following poem, just after the dog was euthanised and whilst she was still in tears, I will reiterate now that the poem is not directed at you, as you actually took the time and effort to do something, but it is that persons feelings towards all the other people prior to you who ignored this dog, I thought I would share it with you as its quite moving."
You keep on walking by…………………… Why Why Why?
I have been like this for months & you keep walking by…………
You do not help me you just keep walking by…………
You do not see my hunger or thirst you just keep walking by……
You do not see my pain you just keep walking by…………
When you do see me & all you feel is disgust Why Why Why………
I come near you for help you chase me away Why Why Why
My cancer tumors grow as does the pain, you ignore meWhy Why Why
You are many humans & so are not humane? Why Why Why
Today my pain has gone as I am taken from this world, to the next, for the first time in my life I was stroked & kissed as I slipped away………
Why did I have to wait until my last minutes to feel love Why Why Why
So if you see a dog like this and want to do something about it notify soidog at www.soidog.org Emergency Helpline: 081 788 4222 They do care and will help relieve the dogs' pain.

Our Lady Peace, March 9 at the Olympia
Our Lady Peace singer Raine Maida sees red at the Olympia on Tuesday, March 9. Photo: Marie-France Coallier/The Gazette. For more photos from the show, please click here.
In an interview with The Gazette last week, in the midst of rehearsals for a tour that features complete-album performances, Our Lady Peace frontman Raine Maida said the first half of the band's two-set concert would be "almost like us in the studio recording (our albums) again." Based on the evidence at Tuesday's sold-out Olympia gig -- which featured a front-to-back reading of the 1997 disc Clumsy -- Maida was doing his group a disservice with those words.
This may have been a nostalgic night out for many fans, but it wasn't a sterile recreation. If you had listened to Clumsy on your way to the Olympia, the difference between the album and the live show would have been jarring. First and foremost, there was Maida's voice, which has lost some of its atonal edge but has gained considerable richness. So while the keening cries in Superman's Dead and Automatic Flowers were sanded down, the songs' existential angst had never sounded so deep.
Actually, with the notable exception of Carnival's merry-go-round motif -- derailed by a wheedly guitar effect -- just about everything gained depth, with most songs coloured several shades darker than the album versions. (Special mention here to guitarist Steve Mazur, whose playing is far more muscular on stage.) The toughening-up was especially apparent on lesser cuts like Shaking and Hello Oskar. And hey, give Maida points for honesty: "I'm sorry -- we never liked this song," he said before the latter. "I don't know how it made the record." His qualification that rehearsals helped "everyone (gain) a new appreciation" for the track sounded less certain than the punkish attack that made Oskar an unlikely highlight. Clumsy's title track and 4am, on the other hand, were entirely predictable highlights, their communal choruses no less touching 13 years on.
If the dusky lighting, iconic visuals and track-by-track sequencing gave the Clumsy set the air of A Big Event, the second set was business as usual ... if business as usual is cramming arena-calibre staging and arena-ready choruses into a cozy theatre. Post-intermission, we got more or less a hits collection with interjections from last year's Burn Burn -- perhaps disappointing to diehards who expected further excavations from the recesses of the catalogue, but it was hard not to play along when Maida extended his mike stand over the crowd during Innocent.
"I feel like now we can have fun," he said after Clumsy's serious business was completed, and the change in mood was palpable, starting with cataract-healing neon lights that contrasted with the first set's deep purples and blues. While the evening's second half lacked the gravitas of the first, the band seemed liberated -- particularly Maida, a dignified but approachable frontman with a perceptive grasp of how to bond with fans. He made a brief foray onto the floor during Life, and would soon one-up himself. As Mazur, bassist Duncan Coutts and drummer Jeremy Taggart propelled All You Did Was Save My Life, Maida cam-cordered the crowd, walked down the aisle, out the door, up the stairs and to the lip of the balcony. His ventures into the heart of an audience have become concert staples, which doesn't make the gesture any less exceptional.
The idea of OLP as a people's band was emphasized yet again in the encore, when Maida spotted an enthusiastic fan being directed back to her seat by security, and invited her up on stage instead. Intimate gestures like that -- and grand gestures like playing a beloved album from front to back -- make it impossible to second-guess Our Lady Peace's audience appreciation. And with performances like this one, the band deserves all the reciprocated affection it receives.
Our Lady Peace plays a second concert at the Olympia, 1004 Ste. Catherine St. E., on March 10, featuring a complete performance of the 2000 album Spiritual Machines. The show is sold out.

In Brief: Photo Finishes
(Photo: Annie Leibovitz)
Photographer Annie Leibovitz will retain control of her multimillion-dollar portfolio of work, thanks to a new deal with Colony Capital, the Los Angeles-based investment firm that prides itself on "cautious contrarianism" and "exploitation of inefficiencies" (either of which would make excellent titles for a forthcoming coffee table book of Leibovitz's portraits). Colony, which also owns the rights to Neverland Ranch, will become Leibovitz's sole creditor and help her market her iconic images.
In other photographic news of note, our chums in Paris for fashion week are raving about the Lisette Model exhibition at the Jeu de Paume. On view through June 6, the show features 120 of Model's photos, from her famous shots of life on the streets of Nice and New York to lesser known work, incuding a final assignment that captured the curious characters that frequented Long Island's Belmont Park race track in 1956.
Isn't a Polaroid-branded digital camera an oxymoron? Remember the good old days with a dreamy bunch of notecards from Chronicle Books. Curated by Jennifer Altman, the set of 20 Polaroid Notes include a moody shot of greenery, a hand proferring a cupcake, and a dazzlingly bleached airport scene. Send one to a friend and then watch what develops.

Remainders - The Things We Didn't Post: Take a Look Edition [Remainders]
In today's Remainders: sights! Visit Paris in your browser with a magnificent 24 gigapixel photograph; behold America, circa 1972, in the EPA's 15,000 photograph Documerica project, and more.
Chroming Soon
Chrome OS! Remember that? Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't. In the intervening months since Google announced their snappy, lightweight operating system, there has been a good amount of other stuff to keep the collective geek imagination busy: iPad, Windows Phone 7, Chatroulette. You know, important stuff. But don't worry, even if you did forgot, Google is still on the ball. Speaking at the Abu Dhabi Media Summit, Google CEO Eric Schmidt said that Chrome OS was still on track to be released in the second half of this year. Alright! [Engadget]
GigaParis
Paris! It really is a magical place. But most of us can't just pick up our life, hop on a plane, and move to the City of Love. This isn't season six of Sex and the City and we're not Carrie Bradshaw. What you can do, though, is visit Paris in your browser, in magnificent 26 gigapixel glory. I've come across this type of zoomy, panny super high-res photos before, of course, but this is among the best. Excellent locale, full panorama, plenty of monuments already programmed in for your slow-zoom pleasure. I just hope Carla Bruni is actually in one of those thousands of windows and my searching is not in vain. [Paris 26 Gigapixel]
EPA Shots
Shortly after Nixon formed the Environmental Protection Agency in 1970, its director dispatched 100 photographers to "photograph America's environmental problems, to document America's natural and man-made beauty and to photograph the human condition." That's a tall order, but thanks to the internet we're finally able to see how they fared. The Documerica Flickr set will eventually include over 15,000 images taken as part of the project. [Wired]

great dane bitch puppy (romford)
great dane bitch puppy for sale through no fault of her own. Marley is a great dog and a superb example of the breed. she is full pedigree but unfortunately no papers. we bought her at 3 months old from the breeder and since then she has been great with our son(18 months) and our other two dogs But one of our other dogs isnt too keen on her which is why we have to sell her to a family that can make sure she is safe. marley is a grey merle and a true gentle giant. you can take food away from underneath her nose and she wont even growl. she is flead (frontline) and wormed up to date. photos can be provided upon request and i will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have. we bought marley for £650 just over two months ago we spent £60 on the relevant injections for her. we need a quick sale as its not fair on any of the dogs we have seperating them. sensible offers will be considered many thanks lee
