Sony announces 36-strong list of PlayStation Move supporters, 20 first-party games releasing this fiscal year

At the PlayStation Move press conference in San Francisco earlier today, Sony Computer Entertainment America’s Jack Tretton revealed that 36 third-party developers and publishers, including EA, Activision, Capcom, Konami and Square Enix, would be creating games or supporting the upcoming motion controller in one way or another. In addition, Tretton confirmed that over 20 first-party games will be releasing from Sony in this fiscal year, which will no doubt include SOCOM 4 and the announced batch of 6 launch titles (which you can check out in screenshots over here). PlayStation Network to offer HD movies from ‘all six’ major movie studios

Grace Chen, Senior Manager of the PlayStation Store, recently broke the news on the US PlayStation Blog that Sony has secured digital video distribution deals with ‘all six’ of the major movie studios to begin to deliver high-definition movies through the PlayStation Network’s Video Store. The deal includes distribution agreements with 20th Century Fox, Walt Disney Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Universal Pictures and Warner Bros. Digital Distribution, and will allow users of the Video Store in the US to purchase and download high-definition movies from these studios to own. Immediate offerings include movies such as This Is It, 2012, The Hangover, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, Zombieland, Inglourious Basterds, Up and District 9. Source: US PlayStation Store

PlayStation Home update 1.35 launching today to make it stronger, better, faster

Director of PlayStation Home Jack Buser has dropped everyone a message to say that Sony’s PlayStation Home virtual space will see a new version release today in the form of the 1.35 client update, which will apparently bring a host of “very significant enhancements that will make your PlayStation Home experience even better.” The update will include improvements to Home such as faster load times, and a newly designed and streamlined login process. Here’s a list of additional improvements: Favorites: Personalize your own section to make locating your favorite places quick and simple. Personal Spaces: Your clubhouses and personal spaces are now right at your fingertips. The personal spaces you own and the clubhouses you belong to will be viewable in one convenient location. Friends: Finding your friends in PlayStation Home has never been easier. View the current location of your friends in PlayStation Home, and then navigate there to enjoy the action together. Explore: Browse all the spaces PlayStation Home offers. Finding a space that suites your taste and mood has never been easier. Recommend: Keep up with what’s hot in PlayStation Home. This regularly updated category will feature the newest and most exciting additions to PlayStation Home. Buser warns PlayStation home users that, due to the update launching today, there will be a brief period in which the service will not be accessible, but everything will soon be back to normal and you’ll be able to explore all the new features once update 1.35 is up. Third DJ Hero DLC pack arriving this month ft. Eminem, Jay-Z

Activision recently announced that a third downloadable content (DLC) pack for the well received DJ Hero is on the way, ft. three mashups of six songs from Eminem and Jay-Z, continuing the title’s heavy focus on hip-hop based tracks. The pack is set to release at the end of March on Xbox LIVE Marketplace and the PlayStation Store. Meet Hakan, the oily, final Super Street Fighter IV character

Capcom has revealed the final character to be included in the company’s upcoming Super Street Fighter IV, who appears in the form of a super buff, super oily combatant by the name of Hakan, and if you were looking forward to a character who adds more solemnity and seriousness to the Street Fighter universe… this guy is about as opposite of that direction as you can get. Using his incredibly greasy body (which he makes sure to keep as slippery as possible with regular and generous applications of oil), Hakan employs a grappling fighting technique to squeeze his opponents into the air and along the ground, and spin them around his body. The first gameplay trailer for Hakan below almost reaches the levels of ridiculousness found in Muscle March for the Wii, which I entirely condone. Watch below: Contributor: Oliver

Modern Warfare 2 map pack named, confirmed for March 30th

As previously alluded to, the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 map pack has been officially named by Activision, and has been confirmed to be releasing on March 30th. Entitled the Modern Warfare 2 ‘Stimulus Package,’ the map pack will include brand new multiplayer maps for the behemoth first-person shooter, and will remain exclusive to Xbox 360 for a period of one month. As mentioned by Major Nelson the other day, Xbox LIVE Silver members who would like to try the new maps out for size will able to hop onto the service this weekend, as Microsoft is holding a Multiplayer Unlock event from March 12th until March 15th to allow all and sundry to get a taste of the Xbox LIVE Gold ‘good life.’
