RDJ Is Cuaron's Space Team Leader
Robert Downey, Jr. cast in a movie that sounds really good? That's right, person from 2001 who knows Downey as a drug addict who just got fired from Ally McBeal. Things have changed--RDJ is cleaned up, he's a big deal again, and he's going to be in Alfonso Cuarón's Gravity:
Robert Downey Jr is negotiating a deal to star in Gravity, the 3D space film directed by Alfonso Cuaron.
Downey will play the leader of a team posted at a remote space station. While he and a female colleague are traveling outside the space station, the other team members are decimated by debris from an exploded satellite.
The script for Gravity had been developed originally at Universal with the intention of having Angelina Jolie play the female role. Much of the film is devoted to her struggle to get back to Earth and her daughter. Jolie passed on the project around the time Universal cut it loose.
Also, 2001 time traveler: I have some bad news about Friends.

'NCIS' - 'Jurisdiction' Recap
(S07E18) At this point in 'NCIS,' every episode has a certain amount of fun in it just because we like the characters so much. It's the team interaction and the nuggets of character development that are generally more interesting than the mystery, although there was a clever, treasure subplot in this one. And there was someone new in the mix. For more on the anti-Gibbs -- or maybe she was more of the alter-Gibbs -- follow me after the jump.

Windows Phone 7 to Limit Multitasking

Sharing Content in the FUTURE
The internet is a very disorganized place. I think our children and grandchildren will laugh at us for (among many other things) even trying to bushwhack our way through this chirping, hissing, dripping jungle of data, media, networks-within-networks, and kittens doing adorable things. The next truly killer app will be the one that is able to organize content, suss out what matters and what matters to you, and deliver it to you on a silver platter (or on a lunch tray, or in the Stanley Cup, or however you want it served).
The big question that follows is how, exactly, will content-- written, visual, audio, etc.-- be sorted and organized? Who will be the decider? Will the New York Times editorial board bestow the label of true and important? Will Google's algorithms sort items based on myriad criteria to allow the relevant to rise to the top? Will billions of netizens vote and decide? Who knows.
Here's what I do think is true: In dealing with the oceans of media and content, perhaps the most valuable validators will be our friends. They'll share links, photos, videos, blog posts, quotes, quips, and other stuff they like with you, their friend, and you will share back with them. We already do this of course, through e-mail and IM, status message and Tweet, RSS, Blog, Buzz, YouTube, Flickr and Facebook. But it's fragmented, it's disorganized, and it's not very well integrated.
A recent article by Marisa Meltzer at the American Prospect wrote about blogging/sharing platform Tumblr, which gives users a slick, easy way to share content-- original or not. She aptly describes it as a tool for "curating" the web-- for picking out and sharing what matters to you, and ignoring the rest. I've experimented with a number of blogging platforms over the years, and Tumblr is the one that feels most relevant to the moment we're in now: distilling simplicity from the pandemonium.
So is Tumblr the future of content sharing on the web? Well, no, not exactly. I think we're gravitating toward something that melds Tumblr's simplicity, ease of use and customizability with much of Google Reader's functionality, and then ties it together with Facebook's network. Google and Facebook are both working hard to develop the killer content-sharing platform, but Facebook still feels clunky, and Google Buzz is the worst of all worlds.
But it was just 25 years ago that the first .com was registered. Fifteen years ago, Netscape changed the internet. And five years ago, nobody had heard of a Twitter. So I won't go any further in my speculation about how we'll be sharing-- or even what we'll be sharing-- five years from now.

Watch Titanic sink in 3D, yo!
James Cameron isn’t a dummy, but Titanic in 3D? Will that be a big draw? Probably. After ten years of the successful movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, James Cameron has decided to bring the hit movie back to the big screen, but in 3D. So yes, that means we [...]

Canon Digital Rebel XSi 12.2 MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens (Black)
The XSi is my first DSLR camera. I have, for many years, been shooting with point-and-shoot (also called "compact") cameras, so I have a lot of experience with point-and-shoot cameras. But the images quality of the XSi simply blew me away! The images captured on the XSi is much, much, much sharper than the ones from a point-and-shoot camera!
If you're looking at the XSi, you're probably a budding photographer like myself. The XSi is, debatably, the best entry-level DSLR camera, next to the Canon EOS Rebel T1i/ 500D.
Highlights
----------
- 18mm - 55mm "Kit" Lens Included
The Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/ 3.5-5.6 IS SLR Lens alone sells for [...]. You have everything you need to get started right away with taking great-looking pictures!
- Phenomenal Images
Alas, I'm unable to show you the images I've captured with the XSi here. But there's alway sample images uploaded by customers of the pictures on the product page. Alternatively, you can go to the Canon site and see for yourself the official sample images.
- Auto Mode
Okay, so you're not quite prepared to tinker with the bells and whistles on the XSi. No matter, there's always a fully "auto" mode (green rectangle on the selection dial) you can fall back on. In this mode, you would be using the XSi just as you would a point-and-shoot camera. The auto mode will stifle your creativity, but it will help you take great pictures nonetheless.
- Incredible Battery Life
I must have taken hundreds of pictures of pictures and the battery indicator bar still shows a full battery capacity (that's with image preview disabled- which is, if I'm not mistaken, the default/ factory setting).
In sum, the XSi does every your point-and-shoot does, only BETTER.
If, like lot of people, you are in a quandary deciding between the T1i and the Xsi/ 450D. Here are the major improvements of the T1i, at least on paper, over the XSi :
- 15.1 MP Resolution
- Full HD video at 20 Frames Per Second
- ISO range of 100 to 3200
- 920,000 dots VGA monitor
vs. the XSi:
- 12.2 MP Resolution
- No video capability
- ISO range of 100 to 1600
- 230,000 dots VGA monitor
* XTi vs XSi *
- Resolution: 15.1 MP vs. 12.2 MP
When it comes to megapixels (MP), I would have to subscribe to the mantra that megapixels isn't everything. Since the XTi has the same sensor size as the XSi (APS-C size: 22.2 x 14.8mm), a higher number of megapixels would mean more pixels packed into same sensor area.
Keep in mind that as a general rule, the higher number of megapixels that are packed into a given sensor area, the worse the more "noise" (or graniness) in low light conditions. (I want to be fair, however, and say that I have not noticed perceptible differences in image quality between the two cameras, even in moderately lit or low light conditions.)
- HD Video
The T1i frame rate is 20 frames per second (fps) compared to even the low-end camcorders, most of which are capable of 30 fps in Full HD. The XSi has no video mode.
- ISO: 3200 vs. 1600
Like they say, there's no free lunch. A higher ISO *will* result in more noise in a captured image. As a rule of thumb, set your ISO to the lowest practicable ISO setting. The lower upper range for the XSi isn't, in my opinion, a big restriction.
- LCD Resolution: 920,000 vs 230,000 dots
There is absolutely no refuting that the LCD on the T1i *is* better than the one on the XSi. The images displayed on the T1i is unquestionably sharper than the images on the XSi.
Based on the above factors, you will have to be the one who ultimately decides what works better for you.
There are, of course, other considerations, the most glaringly obviously of which is - you guessed it - the price. The price of the XSi is has dropped like a rock since I purchased it a couple of months back. If you're on a tight budget, the XSi is definitely the way to go.
---
The image quality from the XSi is simply phenomenal. It is very affordably priced (it has gotten much cheaper than what it sold for originally when it debuted in 2008). If you're on a budget, the XSi is, in my opinion, the best DSLR camera to get.

Twitter Tuesday - this week's Twitter news, apps and more
Filed under: Features, Social Software, web 2.0, Microblogging
Hey Twitter Tuesday true believers! It's been a big week, with some of the Twitter crew down in Austin, TX for South by Southwest Interactive. As you may recall, Twitter initially launched at SXSW, and it's been a huge part of the conference ever since. No surprise, then, that Twitter's @Ev chose this event to launch a big new Twitter feature. Read on for that announcement, plus apps and add-ons -- there's even some Tweetie news!
Let's do this thing!
The big news in Twitter this week is the announcement of "@anywhere" during Evan Williams' SXSW keynote. @anywhere means that Twitter won't just be limited to Twitter.com and all of the lovely third-party apps and sites I cover in this column. Nope, Twitter will really be ... anywhere. Twitter usernames will be popping up all over huge sites like Amazon, eBay, MSNBC and Digg. You'll eventually be able to bring @anywhere to your own site, too, with just a little bit of Javascript magic.
