Precious,' Up in the Air' lead latest Blu-ray releases

By By DOUG NYE -- Two best picture nominees, "Precious" (Lionsgate, 2009, $39.99) and "Up in the Air" (Paramount, 2009, $29.99) top this week's small list of new titles arriving on Blu-ray. "Precious" received six Oscar nominations and won two during this past Sunday's Academy Awards presentation. Mo'Nique won best supporting actress for her role as Mary, Precious' angry, do-nothing, chain-smoking mother. Geoffrey Fletcher won for best screenplay based on a published work, in this case the novel "Push" by Sapphire. The film unfolds in 1987 Harlem where 16-year-old Precious (Gabourey Sidibe in an Oscar-nominated performance) lives a miserable life. She is overweight, has had a child after being raped by her father and really doesn't know how to read or write. Little wonder that she is withdrawn.
