San Francisco is the perfect playground for kids
SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco is that rare vacation spot that offers urban exploits with a taste of woodsy outdoors nearby. We took our daughter, a few months shy of 3 at the time, for a four-day trip and met a new side of the city we fell in love with years prior. The highlights:
Golden Gate Park: This place could eat up your entire vacation, what with the aquarium, planetarium, zoo and more. But we only devoted a day, so we stuck to the Koret Children's Quarter, home to a huge playground - the nation's first, in fact, built in 1887 - and a gorgeous carousel where kids under 5 ride free. Take a map (go to sfgov.org for a good one).
Fisherman's Wharf: Tourist trap, yes. But the street performers, the sea lions, Pier 39 (with a double-decker carousel) and the Boudin Bakery - where you can watch the bakers craft their famous sourdough - make the crowds and the T-shirt hawkers tolerable. We ended each day with an evening trip to the Wharf, usually capped off with ice cream from one of countless vendors.
Cable cars: Head to the turntable at Powell and Market streets, the starting point for two of the city's three cable car lines. Hop on either line (Powell-Mason or Powell-Hyde) for a seatbelt-free ride up and down those famously steep hills, a real treat for kids used to being locked and loaded into strollers and car seats and bike seats and anything else that moves their little bodies.
Muir Woods: Across the Golden Gate Bridge, less than an hour's drive from downtown, this majestic national monument offers a peaceful respite from the din of the city. Giant, centuries-old redwood trees (some as tall as 200-plus feet) tower above, and the walking paths are paved and level - perfect for budding nature lovers.

Jets the Best Landing Spot for LaDainian?
Tomlinson is entering day two in New York visiting with Jets officials after leaving Minnesota without a contract offer. The Jets will continue to "woo" the free agent running back today, but are the Jets the best suited for LT? To me, the signing would not make very much sense. The New York Jets are just days separated from releasing their leading rusher of the last three years in Thomas Jones (who is now a Kansas City Chief) , and are about to bring in a running back with much more wear on his tires than Jones. That is a bad move not only for the Jets, but for Tomlinson as well. The Jets releasing of Jones may have had something to do with him being due a roster bonus of $3 million dollars bringing his total price tag for 2010 to $5.8 million, but it had more to do with the youth and talent they had sitting behind Jones. Shonn Greene and Leon Washington were the main factors in Thomas Jones being shown the door in New York. Washington was well on his way to his best season in 2009 before fracturing his fibula, while Greene found his spark in the post-season as he scored the game-winning touchdown in the opening round against the Bengals. Tomlinson, who may come in at a price slightly lower than Jones, it won't be by much. The Jets will end up overpaying for an over-the-hill running back, when they had one on the roster in Jones who had, in recent years, outperformed Tomlinson on the field, and there is nothing to suggest anything different to take place in 2010. Tomlinson has been a work horse throughout his career, and those effects have been beginning to show. Meanwhile, Jones has been putting together consistent years, without having the overall carries to even compete with Tomlinson, making him much less susceptible to the drop-off that Tomlinson suffered. Don't get me wrong, Tomlinson should consider it a privilege to be able to sign with two playoff caliber teams such as the Jets or Vikings, but why would he choose the Jets over the Vikings is what strikes me? The connection may come with offensive coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer, who worked with Tomlinson during their time in San Diego. However, if Tomlinson is looking to win while getting his playing time, he should hop on the next flight back to Minnesota and sign on that dotted line. With the presence of Shonn Greene and Leon Washington, there is no way that Tomlinson will get the title of being the "1A" back in New York that he was promised in Minnesota. While Tomlinson is certainly on his way to the Hall of Fame, and he has been one of my favorite players to watch, his time is coming to a close. He just doesn't possess the same attributes that made him that high caliber player, and would find himself struggling for carries behind Greene and Washington. It would serve him better to take the "1A" spot behind Adrian Peterson and finally get himself a Super Bowl. Tomlinson has been rumored to have visits scheduled with Philadelphia and New Orleans should he leave New York without a contract, but neither of those teams will be making an offer serious enough to compete with the Jets or Vikings. Although, the Eagles could probably use him the most out of all four of the teams mentioned.

Maple Sugar Bush Tour & Hike
Hangin' OUT LGBTS Lesbian Gay Bi Trans Straight Social Club
It's that time of year again, when the maple sap is flowing in the trees! We can "tap" into this at a maple syrup festival and sample the sweetness of spring at the Bruce's Mill Conversation Area, in Stouffville.
Come and enjoy the simple pleasure of being in the fragrant maple woods on a fresh March day. Smell the sweet aroma billowing from the sugar shack as the maple sap is boiled down to syrup. Savour the taste of hot pancakes fresh off the griddle smothered with homemade maple syrup in an old log cabin. Experience maple syrup being made in the pioneer and modern ways is a Canadian tradition to be enjoyed year after year. You'll appreciate the warm and personal approach, as well as the rustic setting of the beautiful sugarbush.
Conveniently located off Highway 404, Bruce's Mill Conservation Area is a popular destination for residents of the City of Toronto and York Region. join a group on a guided tour, to learn more about how maple syrup is made (the tours are offered every hour, on the hour)
watch the strolling unicycle juggler, who will be around until about 2pm
go to the petting zoo
and, perhaps most importantly, eat delicious pancakes with maple syrup!!
The cost of pancakes is about $6.50 for 3 pancakes, and $5.50 for 2 pancakes. Other things for sale include hot dogs, sausages, back bacon, and soft drinks. You could also pick up some fresh maple syrup in a bottle to take home with you.
After we've filled our bellies with good and sweet things, meet back up with your driver / passengers at 4:00 when the conservation area closes, and begin our carpool rides back home. We should be back in Toronto by about 5:30 p.m.

Living or moving overseas? Tips to save money when transferring funds.
The following is an article contributed by World First, a trusted company specializing in foreign exchange.
If you are planning to live or work overseas, there are a number of things you need to think about before you move. If you are already living abroad then you will know firsthand how much a move in the exchange rates can affect you.
As an example, the current weakness of the Pound has proven extremely beneficial for those moving into the UK, however those moving out of the UK have seen a noticeable and negative impact on how far their Sterling will take them. In October 2007 a €500,000 property in Europe would have cost a UK citizen around £348,000. 2 years later, the same priced property will cost you £463,000- an increase of £115,000. This outlines the true extent to which people living or moving abroad can be affected by volatility in the currency markets.
Regardless of this, people still need to make overseas payments and it is therefore crucial that they secure the best possible exchange rate for their transaction. Many people assume their bank to be the best place to exchange currency, unaware that the banks usually offer fairly uncompetitive exchange rates, slower transfer speeds, increased transfer charges and limited access to the various foreign exchange products available.
By using a specialist currency broker you can significantly improve the financial efficiency of your overseas payments, and gain access to products that may be hugely beneficial to you.
Benefits of Brokers
Usually save clients between 0.5% and 4% on the amount they transact
Faster international payments (same day in many cases)
No commission and no bank receiving charges
Bespoke and professional service with a dedicated broker
Free rate and market watch service
Access to products that the banks may not offer
Foreign exchange products available
Spot contracts
If you already have the funds in place, you could arrange a spot transaction. This is simply the exchange of one currency for another at the current market price where the settlement happens within two working days. A broker should be able to get you a significantly better exchange rate for this transaction.
Forward contracts
A forward contract allows you to fix a rate now for a date in the future (up to 2 years ahead). This means the rate is fixed regardless of exchange rate moves, thereby protecting you if the exchange rate moves against you.
Currency options
A currency option, like a forward contract, allows you to exchange one currency for another on a future date, thereby protecting you from negative movements in the exchange rate. However, with an option, if the rate moves in your favour you can still take advantage of this. There are very few brokers that can offer currency options to clients as it requires additional FSA authorisation. One such broker is World First.
Regular Payments
If you will be exchanging a set amount of funds on a regular basis for mortgage payments or pension transfers, you can set up a regular payment order which will automatically transfer the funds on a regular basis.
It is worth noting that most of the above transactions cannot be made through the bank, and you would need to talk to a specialist currency broker to see what would be best for your specific needs. Using a broker will also allow you to receive commercial exchange rates, free market updates and a personal service with professional market knowledge.
Elisabeth Dobson of foreign exchange broker World First warns, “don’t leave your foreign exchange transactions to the last minute. It could leave you exposed to the prevailing exchange rate and you may not have adequate funds to move overseas.
With some of World First’s products you can protect yourself against negative exchange rate fluctuations. The options above are becoming more and more popular especially given the recent volatility and unpredictability of the currency markets. Forward planning will ensure your emigration can go ahead as planned”.
If you would like to speak to a dedicated foreign exchange expert about your individual requirements, please contact World First on +44 (0)207 801 9080. Alternatively you can view their website at www.worldfirst.com
