In the News
In late August, former Carroll College student and Saints basketball player Sinan Guler competed for his home country of Turkey in the FIBA World Championships. Guler graduated from Carroll in 2007 and played ball for the Saints in 2004-2006.
First Lieutenant Marieke Min (photo left), Carroll class of 2008, just arrived in Iraq for a one-year tour as a platoon leader with the Montana Army National Guard 67 Signal Company. (Photo from Camp Victory). She is in charge of approximately 35 soldiers. Lieutenant Min enlisted in the Montana National Guard in 2007, the same year she earned her U.S. citizenship and joined Carroll's Army ROTC program on a ROTC scholarship. After graduation, she earned her officer's commission in spring 2008.
History Professor Robert Swartout notes that, as a Carroll history major, Min wrote her Research Seminar paper on the Dutch resistance movement during World War II and presented a version of that paper at the annual Northwest Regional Phi Alpha Theta history conference.

Behind the Oakley + Foose Collab
Ok, in addition to my so called “packaging fetish” ~ i have a fascination with marker renderings. Yes, digital is fun and all ~ but there’s something so gorgeous and amazing about marker rendering too… and then when you mix the analog and digital for even cooler outcomes (more on that later!) Well another fun discovery while down at Oakley HQ ~ i got to check out the sketches behind the box and new shoe design they just launched with Chip Foose! Foose is known for his amazing hot rod designs (Youngest to be inducted into the Hot Rod Hall of Fame). In fact this weekend, Oakley has just released the Oakley Three Palms shoe at the National Hot Rod Association’s US Nationals where Foose is the grand marshal. So take a peek at the design behind the packaging and shoes on the next page!

Brooks & Dunn Wave Goodbye
When they announced the Nashville finale for the Last Rodeo, Brooks & Dunn hinted that it would have a superstar lineup as they gave all the proceeds from their end-of-the-road concert to the Country Music Hall of Fame, located across the intersection from the Bridgestone Arena.
But when the last chord rang out and the lights went up on the sold-out auditorium at Thursday’s last-ever Brooks & Dunn show, you could count the extra artists who showed up on two fingers: Tyler Dickerson, who turned in a solid six-song opening set that sounded more mature than his chronological age — 16 — would suggest; and Reba McEntire, who kicked into gear for the last chorus of “Cowgirls Don’t Cry” a little more than half-way into B&D’s two-hour farewell.
Without the fanfare, it felt oddly like a regular Brooks & Dunn show. Kix Brooks broke into a bittersweet smile and doffed his cowboy hat at the end of the aptly titled “You’re Gonna Miss Me (When I’m Gone).” It looked on the video screen as if perhaps, just maybe, he was tearing up, but you couldn’t be certain.
