Day 139 of 170: If You’re Lucky, You Can Stop Caring Now
I say that because this season’s playoff race is already re-diggity-donkulous. I also say that because in my leagues – where I’m the commissioner – the playoffs start this week, and thus end on April 4th, thereby avoiding that annoying last Week-And-A-Couple-Days at the end of the season. This is also good for the people in those leagues (those being mine) who own LeBron James because the LeBron Jameses clinched a playoff spot yesterday with a big win over
Patrick’s non-one-name-team, the Boston Celtics. James was not the best fantasy player yesterday, though.
Line of the Night: Dwyane Wade (1.30) scored 38 points in a win over Philadelphia. I think Wade is going to be huge for the next couple weeks at the Dwyane Wades try to keep their lead over the Raptors and beat out the Bobcats so they don’t have to play the LeBron Jameses. Of course, watching those two go[...]

What Classics Have You Been Meaning to See for Forever?
There are the classic films we've never seen (that we confess to on Twitter on #fessupfriday), and then there are the movies we just keep meaning to see and for whatever reason just keep putting off. The former might include titles we never expect to see nor desire to put any effort into seeing. (I'll likely never feel the need to see either Doctor Zhivago in its entirety or The Jazz Singer at all, even for historical purpose.) The latter are those films in our Netflix queue that might remain in a position between #5 and #10 for years, but which will never make it up into the top five due to being sidelined for other more preferred titles (usually new releases).
Looking at my own queue right now, some of the titles that have been in the same relative spot for way too long include Last Year at Marienbad, The Foot Fist Way, Repulsion, Timecrimes and a whole bunch of Ingmar Bergman titles. I know, there's no rhyme or reason to these unrelated and very dissimilar movies (except the Bergmans, collectively). They're just honestly movies that keep getting passed over. The fact that I now only get one disc at a time that sits in my apartment for awhile, as I mostly view Instant stuff via my Roku, only adds to the problem. I came this close to watching Timecrimes awhile back when it was available on Instant, but now that it's not, the physical DVD may never make it into my mailbox. For no good reason at all.

What One Actor or Actress Would You Clone?
This week I heard some people saying Robert Downey Jr. needs to be cloned so he can star in that Leonardo Da Vinci action movie, among other things. And yeah, that would be great since there are so many characters that he will just never have the time for, especially as long as he's got the Iron Man/Avengers and Sherlock Holmes franchises to keep him busy when he's not doing other work. The same can also be said for other consistently entertaining stars like Johnny Depp and Matt Damon, the latter of whom I even slightly hinted about being cloned in a Pitch post earlier this week.
Then there are the hot actors du jour who are mentioned at least once -- sometimes twice -- a day in connection with some blockbuster or other. While I might not agree, I'm sure Hollywood execs currently wish they could clone Sam Worthington, Taylor Lautner and maybe Shia LaBeouf. As for actresses, both Angelina Jolie and Katherine Heigl get "attached" to a lot of projects, many of which they won't end up doing. If only it were still the Golden Age studio-contract era, when big stars would regularly do four or five starring gigs a year, minimum.

U.S. Movement in the Global Travel Market: How Will You React?
On the travel front, the United States is losing steam, but President Obama and Congress are combating this downward trend with the passage of the Travel Promotion Act. Compared to the year 2000, this country saw 2.4 million less international visitors in 2009. "So what?" you may ask. "Why should planners pay attention to this news?"
Signing this act into law marks the first nationwide travel promotion and communications program aimed at drawing in more international travelers and boosting the country's position in the global travel market.
"By signing the Travel Promotion Act, President Obama has acted to support the power of travel to serve as an economic stimulant, job generator and diplomatic tool," said Roger Dow, president and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association.
Indeed, travel is powerful. I'm sure that as a planner, you're tasked with coordinating meetings and events that involve some form of it. So the question is: Who can you trust to help you with important travel arrangements?
Cvent's event management software includes robust housing and travel capabilities that integrate seamlessly with leading global online booking and procurement tools (GetThere, Concur Cliqbook, and Passkey). Couple this with the most comprehensive sourcing tools out there - the Cvent Supplier Network and Destination Guide - and you're on your way to execute travel-related plans with ease.
We can follow the president's lead on this one: now is the perfect time to prepare and welcome more travelers (both domestic and international) at your events!
